Remove chrome from plastic grille

Not sure if it is actually chrome but on my grille it is in good shape but the chrome acccents ar peeling in places and the black isnt anymore. Does anyone know a way to remove all the accents wuthout melting the plastic?

I think i just want to paint it black and put it back on.

Baking soda in a media blaster maybe? I have had luck with baking soda for softer parts.

No it would tear apart the exposed plastic (even gently, slightly) as the chrome coating I think is a lot tougher than the plastic.

Try 409 cleaner, that works on model cars to remove the chrome from those plastic parts.
