Is the stereos in a 2001 Chevy Silverado and a 2008 Chevy Cobalt both considered double DIN radios? Are they interchangeable? I am an idiot on 2000 up audio tech. Is there a chart somewhere in the internet world that shows what is interchangeable or something?

Totally different. 2001 still used a 1.5 DIN that didn't have to have the BCM reprogrammed to install in to something different.

Is it possible to put the Colbalt radio in my truck or is that programming crap going to keep it from working?

Programming will keep it from working. There is probably a way around it but I haven't looked at them to figure it out.
