Question about lift height

i have 33” tires on my 85 K10. The truck was lifted when I bought it with a Rough Country kit. It has 4” blocks in the rear. The measurement from floor to fender bottom is about 41”, and there are about 10” between the top of the tire and the fender bottom.
What lift kit height do you think I have right now? 4”? 6”?
I need to get the truck a little lower for a variety of reasons. I plan to stick with the 33s.
If I went with a 3” kit, what can I expect from floor to fender bottom? From top of tire to fender bottom?

I'd say that puts you right at a 4" lift.

If you bought a 3" lift there is a chance you'd end up with the same measurements... at least for the first 6 months-maybe a year until the springs settled. (for the front anyway. For the rear if you replace a 4" block with a 3" block you will drop 1"...)

33's will usually fit a stock truck if you do a little trimming of the metal trim around the wheel wells, so you could certainly go down to a 2" or 3" lift, or probably even remove the kit entirely and go with stock height. However, any change will require new front springs, so coming down a little or coming down a lot will be about the same cost. The rear blocks are the relatively cheap part of the lift kit.

Are you trying to comply with an inspection height requirement, or is there some other reason to get it lower?

I made some measurements on my last truck before I sold it so I had a comparison for my K30. On my '79 K15, I had installed a Tuff Country 4" EZ Ride front spring and a 4" block in the rear.

For measurements, I used fixed points as tires are never really true to size and the pressure can effect the ground height. I used the center of the hubs to the bottom of the wheels well and the hub center to the horizontal body line (upper trim on my '79). I found out the 73-80 fenders are .25" lower than the 81 & up, so I added that back for your '87.

If you have not trimmed your fenders, you will probably have to when you lower it. All my GM trucks with 33" tall tires and 10" wide wheels I have needed to trim.

Stock height is right at 8.5" from the top of the front axle tube to the bottom of the frame.

If you measure this on your truck and get 13" then 13 - 8.5 = 4.5 so +/-4" lift. Because of spring sag (or not) etc, you'll have to round up or down to the nearest lift with your measurement.
