Quadrajet junkies

So I sold the 400 but was able to keep the carb. Just for fun I looked up the carb number and it's from a 1978 Chevy truck with a 400 or big block. Perfect, that's what t came off of. Then I decided to check the Q-jet that was on the 350 I put in.

70 - Rochester Quadrajet
2 - 1960's
9 - 1969
2 - 4bbl Federal Standards
0 - Chevrolet
4 - Auto Trans

So I did more digging and came up with this.

Now for the date code. I've read that it's either under the part number (I've read this is '69 through '74), or on the baseplate near the driver's side rear bolt. Early Q-jets had a 2 digit code on the tag while some '68 and early '69 had a 4 digit Julian code. Mine has 3 digits. Do you think it's a replacement? Or did they leave the 0 off and it should read 0129? So the 12th day of 1969.

I emailed the guys over at Quadrajet Power LLC and this was their response:

"Hi, it is likely that the 0 didn’t get stamped and it is 12th day of 69. 69 was a crazy year for Quadrajet production and we have seen many things that were out of the norm before."

Woot! I'm seeing this carb on Ebay for $1,300+! That's rebuilt and recolored of course. Makes me look at Quadrajets in a whole new light lol

Holy crap! ! I have an original from a 1976 400SBC. I think I will re-build mine and "re-color" it. 1300 could do a lot for my truck! ! !

Actually I have 2. One on my original 76 I bought in 1976.

Run the numbers first and see how much it's worth. Mine is only worth that much because it's a '69, has a same year stamped baseplate, and was factory original on the big blocks. Most are only worth $3-400.

Don't care how much my qjet is worth it has to work properly....have 3 or 4 shelved and waiting for rebuild for the next project.

But they didn't produce a 400 for the C/K in 1974. 1976 was there first year they put that motor in that generation truck. And i thought yours was a 1974.

The 400 came out of my 1978 Suburban, the 350 came out of my 1975 GMC. The expensive quadrajet was on the 350 but it obviously wasn't original. The Quadrajet that was on the 1978 400 isn't worth anything except the price to rebuild it.

I bought a brand new level 2(which is tuned for intake and headers)Quadrajet from national carburetor for $300.

You'd have to find a big time collector to pay that. Hope you can but, I wouldn't hold my breath.

No wonder that one disappeared fast at pull a part I saw. It was missing pieces and had wire on it so I left it. Maybe should of grabbed it I guess

Matching part number guys are out there. But if there that into it they usually can source parts too where they don't pay those crazy prices. But they will of they have too!

Well hell this thread makes me want to go run the numbers on the Q junk that came with my truck (in a box of stuff). Maybe itll pay for my body repair lmao. Mind you i bought this truck with numbers matching motor n trans but carb was an eddy on top when i got it.
