I drive my truck to and from work everyday but its only about a 15 minute drive. I havent driven it for extended periods of time. I drove it about 40 miles one way yesterday and then it didnt want to restart. Afer about 10 min of trying i finally got it going. It didnt want to idle good and would die at stop lights. Anyways I made it back to work and about 4 hours later left to go home. It fired up just fine and ran great. It only seems to do this once it is warm. Its not running hot has a new carburetor and intake manifold. One thing i do notice is in the clear fuel filter after the truck has been off for about 5 minutes will drain all the gas out of the line. Is this normal. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

had it happen plenty, what kind of carb and intake?

alum intake?

edelbrock carb?

sometimes a carb spacer of heat insulator under it fixes this problem, in most cases it does, other times the fuel return can be plugged and that fix it. I've had to do both.

exactly, look into an edelbrock heat insulator gasket it solved it for us.

the intake heat soaks the cabr boiling the fuel out of the body.

Before you spend any money, drive the truck long enough to get it good and warmed up, and don't shut the truck off till you get back home. Let it sit about 10 minutes and then try to start it again, but with a helper keeping an eye on things under the hood. Look for fuel in the filter when cranking. Even if it's boiling the fuel out of the carb, it should still run fine after it finally does start.

yea it should but ours ran like crap for a minute or two and anytime you tried to idle it for about 5 minutes or so after refiring.

Them block mounted mech. pumps are cheap and they can go out quick and barely, to where they may work just enough but sometimes not quite enough that;s for sure.

i ended up changing the fuel pump last night and drove it around and got it hot and shut it off and fired it back up with no problems. I let it sit for about 15 min and tried it again and it still fired up great. I have the new gasket for the carburetor but just didnt have time to swap it out yesterday. I will put it in today before I head home to see family.
