I have a granny gear SM465 that I took out of the truck I’m restoring. I took it to a transmission shop along with the 208 t case to get them to re seal and check everything out. Got it back they said all is good. Now what I’m thinking am I doing wrong by just not getting the thing rebuilt. I had the motor completely redone bored .60 over and stroked it. Am I asking for problems by not going ahead and just complete redoing the tranny and t case? I’m in west ga if anyone knows some good shops near by also. Thanks.

The 465 is pretty bulletproof , so as long as it's working fine now, I would just run it as is. New clutch components when reassembling, of course.

Similar to the SM420, the SM465, if not making noise, something is wrong. Meaning they are loud, durable, robust transmissions. If the bearings are good, the synchros are good, and you are using non-synthetic gear oil, it should run reliably for many years/ miles. Get some 90w mineral oil from Napa, the old school synchros will thank you.
