So, I have wrapped up the complete teardown and overhaul of my NV4500. I'll get to that in a bit. I figured I should take a deep dive into my 205 t-case before going through all the trouble of swapping everything out. Glad I did. Ended up putting a complete rebuild kit in it as well. I also modified it with the ORD twin stick rails and shifter. I have had the shifter for a few years now sitting on the shelf. However, it was a floor mount unit I was going to use when I had the turbo 400 in it. I realized the floor mount won't work with the 4500. Unfortunately, ORD is back ordered in shifters for like a year. So, I modified mine and made a mount so it's attached directly to the trans.. I also had to modify the shifter handles to get them next to the trans shifter so everything fit on the trans tunnel. Since the top of the trans tunnel was now swiss cheese I just decided to fabricate a removable access panel. It took a while hand forming it but it fits and seals like a glove. The metal I had was twice as thick as the floor sheet metal, which made it tough to form but it's solid. I powder coated the panel, shifter and bracket. So far so good. I should have the t-case put together tommorow and the unit (trans/shifter/t-case) bolted together.

Break time! Needed to clear the bench and take a day for some R&R! Lol
Seriously, if any of the photos conjure up any questions please ask away. I've learned a lot about these 4500's and swapping them into our trucks.

Nice build up Mike and thanks. I will be rebuilding my 205 soon, and I saw a book on your bench. Is that a manual for the 205? and if so do you recommend it?
That manual is for the NV4500 from TorqueKing. It is invaluable and worth every penny. I do not have one for the 205, even though I see they sell one. The 205 is pretty easy to **** into. There are several videos on YouTube that will get you thru it. There's only a few torque specs you need and those are easily found online or you can just ask me as I have them memorized now..lol.

Are you going to go into more detail on the trans in the other thread you had? I haven't had time to get into the one in my dually yet.

While I don't condone it, I stumbled across a download able pdf of that torque King manual. It's out there for free with a little google-fu

THE BALANCE OF BOOST VERSUS COMPRESSION RATIO HAS BEEN AN ENGINE BUILDER’S AND TUNER’S CHALLENGE FOR YEARS. There are many useful charts online for boost VS compression ratio. The Merlin engine in the Spitfire was 4:1, Modern Toyota and Hondas started at 8.5:1. From what I have read and studied, lower CR will make more ultimate power, IF THE ENGINE INTERNALS CAN HANDLE THE LOAD, AND YOU HAVE GOOD GAS. There is a point where CR and or boost makes it impractical to run as an everyday driver. Having said that, @ 8.5-9.0:1 is my CR goal. I believe this will allow around 6-8lbs of boost with reg gas. While higher compression does result in snappiness, and drivability, which I like, It also might exceed my engine internal power level, and or require high octane gas. That is my basis for running an 8.5:1 engine. Higher compression also has a much narrower window as far as tuning, requiring good gas, or a conservative, (read retarded timing,) tune. Where as lower compression allows much more flexibility to tune. The 454 in the truck now is 7.8 to one, and is so easy to tune. Ok pick it apart, I'm listening. One more thing, I will probably limit boost from 5-8 lbs on reg gas, again by the tune. If I want to run more, would switch tanks, with the other tank running 93, or 110 from the local supplier, but very expensive. RWH goal is 600-700, more then that and I could see drive train damage.
I think you meant to put this in your other post you got going on your turbo engine build? Lol, I was like, what is he talking about?

So I got to know how exactly did you couple the np205 to the nv4500. That’s the upgrade I would do if I could figure out how. Currently I have a 454 with sm465 and np205. I’ve heard other people tell me that I would have to loose the np205 if I swapped to the 5 speed. Sure would love an overdrive gear for fuel mileage and interstate driving!

Mike, have my 205 out, and was wondering how the twin stick works. I have a locker 44 in front, and in 4wd, its johnny armstrong steering. I heard that you can just run the front, and lock out the back. Hoping you or someone else can help. I have the Advanced adapters kit for the TH400/ 4l80e, (what I will be using,) with the big bearing input shaft. My 205 works good, but sometimes stubborn shifting, but had some silver fines in the oil, but it is quiet. Plan on a rebuild, but waiting till I get it apart to buy parts. Thank you, or one and all.
