no power

i have no power(electric)at the ignition switch. replaced it still the same. i have a gps plugged into the cig. lighter when i turn the key to start (even thou its dead) the gps goes out until i turn the ignition off. any idea what to do ??? i hate electrics

Check the connection on the alternator, red wire, and fusible link there too. Also check for power on breaker on firewall , 2 studs with red cables. I am assuming the use is fine.

i also checked(metered) the batt 12.75 volts

should i put meter on hot side and ground on breaker

just remembering earlier today went to start everything worked turned key to start made a click and everything went dead. waited a while then it started up fine second time clicked and stayed no power

Ok, let's retrace some steps here. Why did you replace the ignition switch? Then we will go from here. :)

This is also a clue that you may have a loose cable on the battery or at the starter. Take your cables off and check them for corrosion, clean if necessary and re mount snug. I mean where the cables attach to the battery. :waytogo:

i did that on tuesday (battery cables) will do the starter tomorrow.i replaced the switch because it went dead when i tried to start it.

Could be a loose ground at the block, and loose bolt on the batt cable at the starter.

Yup, it will click and sometimes make an arcing sound, and will shut off everything, until you turn the key off. kinda like a breaker.

Grab a can of battery terminal protector and coat it.
