i'm not getting any light on the right side(passenger side) license plate light (the one with the black wire). This is the factory (or dealer installed?) step bumper.

You must be registered for see images attach

i bought a whole new assembly and installed it , but still no light. The old one was rusted out. The left side/driver's side is fine.

Any ideas?

All you gotta do is test for 12v with the lights on. If that’s good, then you’re not grounding out to the bumper good enough, and you’ll have to clean up the hole so there’s no rust. The light grounds through the housing to the bumper, then it just needs 12v

Yes. Sell your truck and get something with a warranty. That, or just be prepared to take it in to an electricial shop and have them fix it, for ANY electricial issue.
You know, i am serious considering this, not because i'm opposed to working on my cars, but because i really don't have TIME to.

GM certified used comes with good warranties.

I was having grounding issues with mine in the bumper. I sandpapered the outer rear housing of the lamp socket, soldered wire on both, connected both wires, added eyelet to other end wire, then ran wire to a nearby bolt on frame. No more issues.

You saying you can get a GM certified used squarebody? Sign me up!
It shouldn't take to much of your time....it's one wire.
