Hey Ya'll,

My name is Josh and just found this site. I have a 1982 K10 I built with my old man about 12 years ago before I left for the service. I finally got ahold of her last year and I'm able to finish her now. Anyways so far frame of resto frame was por15 along with the underside of bed and cab. 4" procomp sus lift new brake lines and brakes. Crate goodwrench 350 with less than 3k on motor. Ready for body work and paint. All new interior to put in her after that is complete. Really I could use any points or advice in finishing her. I don't have wheels or rubber yet I have the stock wheels with shop tires at the moment. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It looks like you've got it pretty well under control. Are you missing anything? It's your truck, and it's totally up to you, but if it were me, I'd clean up the stock wheels with some argent silver wheel paint from Eastwood or whoever, polish the trim rings, and put a set of 35 inch all terrains on there, unless you have more aggressive off-roading plans. You'd be surprised how nice those wheels look with freshened up with new "4x4" inserts on them.

Welcome to GMSB !!! In the service? What branch?

That truck makes me jelly, I wish I could say my K10/20 project was that far along. You know, to 95% of the public it looks like a heap of **** full of junk. Not here. Looks like a mountain of gold to us. :waytogo:

Glad to be here! Thanks for the support and I think I will do just that with the wheels! I have been told 35" will rub with a 4" suspension lift on turns without a body lift which I think looks bad on a SB ..personal opinion. Am I wrong? I fell in love with the General Grabber Red letter anyone a fan? Also crazy question can I put a 79 front grille in instead of the 82? Is it plug and play or what would I have to do to make that happen? Thanks guys. Also Hotrod I'm active Navy Fleet Marine Force Corpsman.

To keep 35's from rubbing, you either need real stiff springs (that's no fun) or really narrow tires and rims. The grille swap would require swapping the entire front clip- it's all different.

I've been running a 4" lift on my truck with a set of 35x12.5 BFG's and they rub a bit around town. Mainly at full lock while hitting a dip or going into a driveway. Bumped up to around 5" in the front and still rub while on the trails and turning/flexing. So throwing a 2" Body lift on there now to remove any and all restrictions on rubbing fenders.

Thanks for the insight guys! When you say changing the front clip do you mean just the front inner support or the front fenders as well? I've been milling around this site and am curious is there a parts swap or classifieds or something of the sort here?

Yes, we have a WANTED and a FOR SALE section. Though site owner requires a minimum of 50 posts before being able to start a thread in those categories. It's a security thing. He doesn't want some stranger signing up and taking cash from members and members getting nothing and the person disappears as it has happened on a couple times on his other forums.

Thanks for the insight guys! When you say changing the front clip do you mean just the front inner support or the front fenders as well?

To go to the 73-80 Round Eye style you'd need to change:

Hood & Hinges
Fenders
Radiator/Core Support
Hood Latch & Support
Headlights
Bezels
Grille
Battery Tray (I think, not 100% sure)

But if you gather all the parts, they'll all bolt together and onto the cab and frame as though it were all original.

Also for your previous question that got overlooked,

General Grabber Red Letters tend to do really well in dirt, sand, pretty decently on road as well. Haven't run them myself, but have heard that they're not as preferred for mud & snow/ice. Not sure how they do in the rocks, but I'd bet they're similar to a normal All Terrain tire. You see them all over on the desert prerunners out here in California.

Careful, don't tell them about the secret threads. They get to reading those, they'll run off when they figure out there's a bunch of crazy sick muhfuggers here. Normally we don't like the newbs looking around to much til we get them hooked. :Insane::gathering:
