Hi
I just got a new clutch put in and when I went to pick the 1985 chev up I get loud lifter ticking ...theere is lots of oil in the pan so that isnt the issue the shop says nothing they did could cause that any ideas what if anything with installing a new clutch could trigger issues in the top end?

I should also mention that the oil pressure guage is pinned at ~400kPa idleing whitch I think it 65psi is it safe to drive 1 mile to my regular mechanics shop?

I wouldn't be overly concerned with the lifter noise for a short drive. I would however, verify there is oil pressure present before letting the engine run for more than about 10 seconds. Maybe pull a valve cover and check for oil coming out of the rockers? Of course pulling a valve cover might be more work than towing it a mile if your mechanic is gonna deal with with it anyway. Keep us posted on the outcome. And welcome to the site!

65psi at idle is not a big deal. My Jeep 4.0 with 217k on the engine idles at 60-80 when cold, and will drop down 30-40 when hot. My '81 will idle at 60 cold, and about 25-30 hot. You sure it's lifter noise? Could a plug wire be loose? I ask, because I thought lifter noise after I swapped heads, and @89Suburban mentioned loose plug wire. It turned out to be a loose plug wire. The arcing was causing a ticking sound that sounded like lifter noise.

With key on/engine off, does your gauge stay at zero? It should and if not then it could be a failed/damaged sending unit or possibly even the wire to it being pinched in the bellhousing.
An exhaust gasket leak can also give the sound of a top end tick.
Was the engine pulled to replace the clutch?

The transmission was dropped not the engine, a contact asked if all the grounds were left in tact as well so that might be the issue , but the cable caught in the bellhousing might be an issue be

Sounds like you have a lot of investigative work ahead to verify that everything is connected and intact.

Check for an exhaust leak especially where the manifolds meet the down pipe,if it still has a y pipe the exhaust had to come off. Also even if the exhaust didn't come off usually the engine gets tilted to make getting the transmission in and out easier, that could have created an exhaust leak. Look for wires pinched between the bell vousing a d engine block especially behind the distributor. A pinched sender wire will peg the gauge.
