Does this tab go under/inside the column to help hold it in place somehow?

I have an 82 C10 that I’m fighting putting this new switch on. I can get everything into place and plugged in fine. But as said as I move the shifter it tries to pop up out of where it sits. I have the tab where it goes into the column so it’s set right.

I have the 2 screws that hold it in tight. It’s like it’s not setting in there exactly right. I’m frustrated beyond belief.

That tab fits into a slot on the shift tube - your old one did not break off and the piece is still in there, is it ?

I'd that's OK, compare the new to the old.

Same dimensions? In other words, is your new one the correct part ?

If none of those are it, try installing it with the column in neutral and that tab centered.

Cant say I recall seeing this issue before so just throwing ideas at ya.

I’ll try and see if I can see that tab. The column was swapped at some point in its life. I thought this would be pretty straightforward. But it has tested me to the end lol. Thanks for the response. I’ll let you know what I find.

Well no luck finding the slot that fit in. After a couple of hours cussing, I wound up using a hose clamp tightened to hell and back around it. Is it factory? Nope. Does it work? Yep and I have reverse lights now.

I’m struggling with reinstalling this I can’t get it to catch the steering Collum tab holes, is it safe to drive with just the wires dangling to the safety switch?
