Afternoon all, I just wanted an honest opinion on how this turned out. I can’t paint it right now, so this is what I went with. I’ve never had anything patina or if that’s even what you’d call this. What do y’all think? I haven’t used linseed oil yet just polish.
Also, anyone have any idea how to get more black to show on the door? I think the fender looks good with the black showing. But the door doesn’t have any showing.

Well, to be honest ...

I am not a fan of the patina look.

You said you could not paint it now, so I assume that is down the road.

Based on that, I would not do any more to it for fear that it would make your work harder, or the paint job more expensive, when the time comes.

The black does give it the more weathered look, though.

Use some rubbing compound and elbow grease.. a more abrasive compound (usually Red) will cut through the finish till you find black.

Honestly Goldie I’m not a fan of the patina either. I’d like to paint it, but I’ve spent a ton on other things on this that are into the budget. Oriellys knows me by name lmao. This was supposed to be a “swap a good engine in and drive it” project. But that is definitely not where it went lol.
I’d like this color combo on it someday.

The black is most likely the original primer. Gray looks like primer under the top coat of red, or is that white paint under the red on the door?
Regardless, just get going with the sandpaper. You’ll find it at the bottom.

( Edit unless it was already removed previously. Many of these era trucks had issue with paint peeling off the black factory primer and were repainted. My 86 appeared to have been stripped down to mostly bare metal and repainted once, many years ago. There was a light brown/tan primer under the paint and under that was mostly bare metal but some black primer, in the spots I took down to bare metal. )
