Hi guys,
I've been receiving some help from this group already, so I figured I should be a gentleman and introduce myself over here. I'm (another) recent transplant from SoCal to Nashville. I learned to drive in my dad's '76 Dually. We lost him last year, but he had a lot of Chevy trucks before, during, and after squarebodies. I've long wanted to get a mid-seventies Camper Special and pop on a vintage camper for weekend trips. My best memories are the 9' camper our family of five took in that dually when it was new- all over the country. (These days people can't fit five people into a 38' pusher with slides).
Anyway, so around a year ago I found this '77 in extremely original shape. Silverado with everything on it including tach and cruise. The previous owner had pulled a 5th wheel for years by the looks of it. I use it every day to haul material as I build a master bedroom suite to the back of our house. The original paint is fantastically worn. The original hood stripes (stickers) had completely faded away, so I sourced the correct paint colors and recreated those as original spec as possible. (the light blue hood without the stripes was awkward).
I've not built a lot of trucks, but I've done a number of European cars. I love Porsches and BMWs particularly. I built a tired and non running 1974 BMW 3.0CS into a Tesla monster during Covid. My wife then advised me to sell it to buy her a house, but it was a fun project and I beat my share of fast cars with that thing (info on that build here if you are interested - bmwcse.com. )
Thanks again for the welcome, and the early help with my truck!
Paul
Here's me in the back of my dad's '74.
Here's my dad - the coolest of them all, with his '76
Here's my '77. I'll post more shots sometime. The interior is very clean and original. AC blows ice cold!
