That original two tone combo was a little uncommon wasn't it? I don't remember seeing many of them.

Ouch.
I remember those wheels from back in the day.

I've been thinking about GMT400 SWB lately. I see the 454SS from time to time on CL.

I've had this one since 98 and I've only seen 1 other standard cab short bed with the same 2 tone.

A lot of people mistake them for eagle but they are actually progressive. They have been on the truck since I've owned it.

You have two different grilles between the pictures shown? The earlier style GMC grille looks way better than the later one, but the later ones are a lot tougher and easier to find in good shape used. The earlier ones love to crack.

I don’t love the GMT400s like I do the earlier ones, but GM still made a simple, common sense, no-frills truck platform with your traditional power teams that anyone could learn to work on and not hate them at the end of the day. That commands a lot of respect now, and they will one day be regarded as a bonafide classic, that much is clear. This is 100% for 88-93, and it’s a little less for 94-95 and a little less for 96-98 (99).

The more I work on GMT800s, the more disdain I have for them. Not so much hating on the LS-based engine offerings, even though there are some external design faults that I would argue about, but the little things they added to make it more difficult and costly to work on really signifies the direction GM was taking in the 90s. And if you have to impromptu special order a tool or make one for something you weren’t aware of until you took things apart, that can make a day project quickly turn into a nightmare.

It’s a nice truck, though. Tough break on the wrecks, but at least the truck (and you) was able to walk away to see another day.

I tried the painted grille but I didn't like it.

Good lord, man! That sucks!
Have lived in many different states and Western WA has far and away the worst drivers of anywhere I've been, not even a contest!
Hell, I bet I've seen a couple dozen bad wrecks JUST on Kent Black Diamond and Auburn Black Diamond Rd since we moved here in 2011....and I wasn't even here for 2 of those years!

Someone even completely demolished a C20 Square that used to be parked on the street going into my subdivision! Annihilated it. Pushed it about 30' up over the sidewalk into the front yard next door. How do you miss a maroon colored truck that is parked in the same spot EVERY DAY??

Hope you made out on the claim each time...only saving grace to it.

The first lady didn't have insurance, had to sue her and that was 2 years ago, still not over.
The second one did have insurance and they covered it, not enough for a good paint job but what can ya do.
