Missing inner fenders?

I see people with lifted rigs that are missing the inner fenders.

Would this not allow the engine to get very muddy and wet?

Is there some advantage to this configuration?

Changing plugs? I'd only do it on a track car or trailer queen.

I keep mine in... or out depending on my mood. I like them out but it would let the motor get muddy if I was in heavy mud. Without them it's easier to work on. Another reason they're out is I think my tires would chew on them when flex'd.

I always kept the inner fender in on my old K10 and the motor still got muddy.
