I have a '76 Cheyenne short bed 2wd 350/auto. Disc front and drum rear. Manual brakes. Problem I'm having is the new master cylinder bench bled great but when I put it on the pedal goes to the floor and I have to pull it up. Is there a return spring of some sort for the pedal? I thought the pressure from the master cylinder would keep the pedal returned. I've replaced everything in the brake system. Shoes, wheel cylinders, hardware, pads, all new lines, new proportioning valve, etc. Any help is appreciated.

You’ll have to bleed the brakes.Start at the furthest wheel from the master cylinder(per brake line routing) and work your way to closest. On my squarebody the drivers side rear is furthest and drivers side front is closest.

Could be the brake pedal is dry/rusty where the pivot bolt goes thru up under the dash. Try loosening the nut just a little bit and turn the bolt a few times. If it doesn't turn easy squirt some penetrating oil up in there.
You might even have to take the pedal out and clean it up.

Appreciate all the responses. I ended up getting a new proportioning valve from Summit. All new steel lines and new master cylinder. Got awesome brakes now! Here's some pictures of the somewhat finished product,,,,,
