Say if someone were to put a big block, approx 700 pounds in a c10, with a th400 behind it.

What would all be needed to be able to help it support that weight? I assume the front coils would maybe need to be upgraded to 3/4 Ton?

Would stock suspension handle that at all? Or would moving up to 3/4 Ton spindles, coils, a arms and bushings be necessary to support the weight?

I'm spitballing right now, got some ideas in my head floating around, just weighing all options at the moment.

Thinking a 73-78 c10, shortbed

Getting electrical and fuel all worked out wouldn't be hard for me, because what I have in mind is incredibly simple.

It's more about the suspension tech I'm interested in.

Thanks

If the C series had the option for heavy duty front suspension like K series did, id imagine that would do it. On k series it meant 3 leafs. But I do think the guys that lower their C trucks have to do a similar thing because they have a lot less suspension travel to work with. i would imagine a bump stop of some kind would help

My 79 Big Ten uses the Moog 6454 front coils, but it is a 350/350. But, that same part number is the only one that comes up for a C10 wit Fo fiddy fo, which coincidentally is also the same spring for a light 3/4 ton too.

C10's could be optioned with a 454 stock, and afaik, the only change for them was the springs themselves. Which in reality much lighter springs could be used. Plenty of big blocks in Camaros and even chevettes they seem to do fine on stock stuff.

OK, so more than likely I could just mostly leave suspension alone in the c10 it sounds like, just change our coils for the jump in motor weight.

I just wouldn't want it to ride like ****, because I'm gonna wanna go fast.

Thinking a reasonable stockish tire size, (no ideas yet), and a 3.73 or 4.10.

I don't care about mpg because it'll never get mph, but with something like a 3.73 I imagine I'd take off pretty quick.

It will scoot.
Mine does and it is a heavier 3/4 ton with the slow shifting SM465 behind the stock-ish big block.
I say stock-ish as the engine rebuild receipt says the magical "RV Cam" on it.
I have 3.73's in the rear and when I feed it the gas, it puts you into your seat.

Now I have a set of the 7.4 Vortec heads that need to be rebuilt and installed on the engine that will give us a nice compression bump that will help out all over the RPM range as well.
Soon enough we will know just how well those help...

They came with factory big blocks in the 70s. Really nothing to do except replace coils if it’s too squishy after dropping the rat motor in.
Pickups make schitty go fast cars though unless you just like to do burnouts (who doesn’t?).
I can’t keep the back end straight on the 86 off the line or kicking down to 2nd on wet pavement. That’s with aired down 35s and the 3rd most anemic 454 they made.

But it would be fun!

I feel compelled to tell you that shitcanning is the only option and that you would be better off with a LS swap.

Weird. I dont know why i would spew something like that.

I feel gross.
