What happens when you change axle seals on a k5 10 bolt.

Drill, punch, hammer and some serious luck it came out.

That was mine. Center pin had to be beaten and cut out.

Rebuild 10 bolt and 12 bolt, both broken. I'm not sure if it was caused by the previous owner. He thought right torque is when the bolt squeals.

I think the po over tightened the pin.
It also had a lot of scaring.

Definitely a common problem since it was in stock at the local parts store.

Because of locktite usually present on bolts like this, I always have a map gas torch and heat up around bolt first, attempt to tighten it not till it moves, just till I reach torque, then back it out and at any point when it feels more resistance on removal, go back 2 threads or so after spraying some lube on threads you can see, then back out some more.

That same technique I use for exhaust manifold bolts and studs. Patience pays off big in the end.

What they need to do on these, it stop the lock tite and use anti seize instead. Then use a bend over tang to block the bolt from being able to spin. Problem solved.

Yep easy does it don’t be in a hurry and like others said heat and patients. They do snap of easy.

Sometimes a 3/8 impact turned down heat and just tap it back and forth gently the impact with some finesse will shock it loose. Steady pressure no heat and a cheater bar/barker bar will snap it nearly everytime.

Glad you got it out that’s the most important thing!

Mine broke at some point and the last guy welded the pin in. Just a quick tack. I had no idea. Drove it for a few years till the weld gave out and the pin dropped into the pinion while I was taking off.
