I bought a 1984 M1008 a few years ago. I want to use the frame and axles to build a nice K30 single wheel pickup. It has very low miles and runs great. I started asking $1200 for the engine now down to $800 and also offered to throw in the TH400 and the NP208 tcase and offered to take trades. Had basically no reasonable offer from the very few intrerested. Haven't started this project yet because I thought it would be more interest if the buyer could hear it run.
So is this engine not worth it's weigh in scrap?

Like most of this stuff, it's worth the money to the right buyer. Just depends on how long you're willing to wait for them to come along. I picked up a 6.2 out of a m1008 myself about a year ago, to have as an extra. Supposedly, it has about 10,000 miles on it. Paid about $650 for it. Now that I'm getting rid of my project truck, I'll be in the same situation with an engine I won't need.

Fun you mentioned haveing a spare. I spoke to several guy's in my neck of the woods with military trucks or run these engines, they all claim to have a spare engine !

It seemed the most cost effective way to get extra alternators, starter, and injection pump.

I think I paid $500 for the '93 that I got from the boneyard. But I also don't think you're out of line for retail. The biggest thing is finding the buyer. You'll probably have to be patient.

Considering what Blue said, That's mostly true... It takes a while to sell 6.2s. I would consider maybe posting on a CUCV Forum.

LOL! I only deal in the early 6.2s 82-83 B/c that's what I have and what's interchangeable
I don’t know why you’d want to limit yourself? You know that one is going to the scrapyard when someone gets the trans and transfer case out of the deal. I would have thought you’d want to save it. #6.2islife.
