While doing some maintenance I ran the number on the Intake I have 3883948 GM 1. When I looked it, that number comes back to a 396ci. That puts in 66-68 year. I pulled the valve cover and I have 353049 heads the heads are from 70-73. I get that it is not the original block. Does anyone have a clue why someone would run this set up. I get mixing part can improve longevity....... the truck cab I have is a 1980....

Is the intake aluminum? 396s had big ovals some one just came across it and used it. It isn't gonna hurt anything.

I have no clue on the piston size I'm not pulling a head to find out. The truck is running just doing some tune up work so it keeps running.

Ya the carbon build up is very nice.... don't understand that either

I ask because that's a big chamber head 122ccs I believe and with flat tops yields a bit under 8:1. I have 97ccs on a nice dome and am at 10.5:1

Ya it's very interesting... it smog legal for California which is odd why someone would put a smaller block in and put all the smog stuff back on.

I don't offical know. The truck vin number says it had 454 at one time. The prior owner said it was a 454 and did not engine work.

So I am cleaning things up and so on. The block is oily and greasy so it has been in there a while.
