make sure the EGR valve isn't stuck open. disconnect the vac hose from the EGR and plug it. then try to start the engine. if it starts, the EGR valve is bad.

are any codes stored? the coolant temp sensor could be bad...

if nothing else, walk through chart A-3 of the drivability and emissions manual...I am guessing you have a 4l80E as it is a 2500

I deleted the egr and I haven’t put a new temp sensor in yet I’ll try tomorrow but that wouldn’t affect no spark would it ?

read through the trouble shooting procedure I posted. coolant temp sensor is part of the step 1 check. I'd also double check all the plug wires to make sure they are on in the right order on the distributor.

if you deleted the EGR, but didn't update the computer, you will get the EGR code thrown on the highway when the system does a self test. it will clear when you restart the truck, but it will always do it.

4L80 didn't exist until 1991....

gotcha. I have a 1990 V1500 and just use the 1991 manual because I don't believe there were any changes for my rig. he may need to pull up his correct year manual out of the reference library and get the correct chart.

No codes is odd with zero spark. How did you test for spark? I suggest getting the correct 87 manual out and follow the troubleshooting flowchart. I know its a pain, but this is fully electronically controlled spark, so you could have everything connected properly and right and have it still not run if the ECM is bad.

Go down and download the "1987 light duty truck fuel and emissions including drivability" manual

There will be a flowchart for no spark or no start like the ones gmbellew screenshotted for you. They will walk you through verifying all of the circuits and systems that could be causing your issue. Just throwing parts at it is the absolute worst thing you can do.
