I'm working on my Dad's old custom deluxe. It was our family vehicle since before I was born. We used to cram our family of four in it til I was about 10 years old. My Dad gave it to me five years ago and I'm slowly trying to work on. He died in March so I'm feeling sentimental and motivated to get it back in really good shape.

Things I've done so far are replace both the locking hubs, and I removed a skid plate under the passenger side tank to try and repair a leak in the tank. This revealed that the straps were completely rusted and I basically had to destroy them to get it off, so I've got to replace those too. I also need to replace the bumper and tail lights.

I'm doing this work by myself so I figured it'd be nice to join an online community of people who also appreciate these trucks. I've already learned so much from lurking the forums, so thank you for providing this space!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

I had a really good weekend of working on my truck. I got some serious help with replacing my tank, had to completely remove the brackets, cut off some rust and weld a piece of steel on. Took us about 6 hours but now I have a brand new tank on my passenger side!

Then this morning, I fixed my horn. I knew my relay and fuse were ok, and I sort of just jumped the gun and replaced both horns because I couldn't get a read to see if they were getting power. It was a good call because when I took the old ones out they were just full of dust and completely dead. I also had to use the extra wires provided to ground them, and got some new fasteners to attach it. Now they're good as new! It took me a while to figure out how to remove the grill, but I managed to do it without breaking any of the brittle plastic. Sounds a bit funny because it's a kind of higher pitched horn. Makes my truck sound like a car. I asked the parts guy if they had a horn that played la cucaracha as a joke and he seriously looked it up but they didn't have one lol.

Next thing I'm gonna do is a rebuild of my transfer case. It's ambiguously leaking and I'm not sure from which end. Figured a rebuild will be a good project, and I will have some guidance from my new friend who helped with my tank! It's a 208 transfer case and I'm excited to get it open and learn how it works. :)
