Hello friends. I’m having a bit of an issue finding a full time 4WD conversion kit for my truck.
It’s a 1976 GMC K2500 with a NP203 Transfer case.

I want to change it to conventional 4WD but since my truck is a 3/4 ton, would the installation be any different than a 1/2 ton?
Would any of the trucks capabilities be altered negatively due to the conversion?

There was a Mile Marker kit I was looking at but I’m hesitant about purchasing it for those reasons. Any advice would be appreciated.

If it has an NP203, it’s already full-time unless someone converted it with a part-time kit. Conventional for our is mostly part-time, but that’s not universal since there are a good many NP203s out there. Anyway, the problem that concerns me is the gasket being crunched into that little box. Several people have complained about having to go to the parts store and get another one. Not a big deal but something to be privy to. Everything else should be the same for any NP203.

I think the advantages outweigh the drawbacks, and the capabilities of your truck won’t be diminished except in maybe the most negligible ways. Better economy and less wear on everything that has anything to do with 4x4 including tires. I think it wouldn’t be such a good idea or at least not necessary in special circumstances like trying to haul pulpwood up a frozen mountain or something like that, but otherwise I vote to go for it.

I have a 75 K20,350, 350, 203 and 4.10 gears. I added a part time kit about a year after I bought it in June 1975. Have had no problems at all , so far!!!! Slightly over 165K on it now. Oh and mine was a MileMarker brand.
