My 89 v1500 burban started doing a strange pull. When im on the gas it veers to the left and when coasting it goes right. Its so bad i can hold the wheel still and essentially steer the truck with the pedal. I have checked the axles for loosness and everything seems fine. Nothing moves nor is there any signs of axle movement like scrapes on the bottom of the leafs. Please help

Check the condition of your leaf spring bushings. Also have you done your brakes in awhile? Or steering components?

I know the drag link had been replaced by the previous owner and it has the raised steering arm for the lift (4 inch rough country) it does pop sometimes when its wet outside when i turn but i heard some leafs without padding in between will do that. I was thinking it has something to do with the front hubs messing up. I has one new caliper all pads and turned drums with new shoes.

I would think the issue would be in the rear. Are all of your bushings on the leaf eyes good to go? How is the rear alignment?

I would double/triple check the tq on the leaf packs to the rear axle. Since it is TQ steering for the most part.

I was thinking this also, is it possible you bumped your t/case into 4hi?

This will only allow you to see whats loose in the ball joints and bearings because all the weight is still on the suspension. Lift it put jack stands under the frame and lower the jack, this removes the vehicles weight and unloads the suspension so you can move it easier, just make sure its setting solid on the stands and wont move when your pushing/prying on stuff.

The rear locker can be hanging up too. I had a GovLoc do that to me once when I had slightly mismatched rear tires.

Dumb question.. Do all 4x4 squares come with a gov loc? It doesn't say anything about g80 in the glove box and if i jack it up the tires free spin opposite roatation with it in park.

No, they don't all have it. But they do require input power to engage the unit, so just spinning the tires by hand isn't a good test. With no G80 code, it's still possible that parts have been swapped around over the years.

Does it have automatic hubs also the axle joints can be locking up or rusting inside the bearing caps causing them to lock up and keep the axle from returning to center and the worse they are the worse the steering is effected

If you have enough power you can steer the truck with the back wheels and some skill.

Sounds like the pins that locate the sprigs to the axle are worn

Or more likely the holes in the flat mounting pads on the axle are egged out and or the flat mounting pads are not quite flat anymore

My bronco had this same condition happen
