78 1/2. Mid year they switched to the electronic ignition. The Shovel is my favorite,love the sound.

Year before mine, but it's back to points. Had a 79 FLH but give it to a young man a few months ago. Yes sir, that Shovel sound is addictive.

@ wanderinthru,

I had a '48 pan head, a FL I believe, some years ago. The owner before me put a cam in it. Man, that thing would thump hard! And wouldn't you know it, it was the first year for pans and the year before was the last for knuckle heads! Dang! I can't even imagine how much that motor of mine would be worth these days....thousands if you wanted one.

Do you think two coils will work? I don't see why not.....I guess. How will the distributor deal with it when it comes to firing the plugs? I can't even think anymore how it will work. What you've got there is early "coil packs".....lol

Your seats are exactly how mine were set up. That one on the fender is called a "buddy pad". It puts the chick right up against you and she ain't goin' no where. It's like hugging backwards.
