I decided to remove the fiberglass tonneau cover from my '90 SS. It's in good condition for the most part and operates fine, but the piano hinge at the front has separated on one side and needs reattaching (broken rivets). Asking $150, located in central Ohio.

It's for a shortbed truck obviously. It could possibly fit the GMT800 trucks too, but that's purely a guess. I know it won't fit a squarebody for sure.

Hey buddy! You took pictures of said cover WITH a crew in the background!! :p

The idea was just to find pictures on my phone that showed both sides of said cover, lol.

Curious as to what the difference in fitment between the gmt400 and a square is? Guessing a smaller top rail but don't have a gmt400 on hand to compare.

The newer trucks are narrower at the rear than a squarebody.

Well, it could possibly fit, but I'm sure it wouldn't look right.

So a newer cap would leave the bed rails sticking out on a square? Is that the same for newer generations as well?

Yes. I had at one time a vinyl snap type tonneau on my longbed dually, that was meant for an '88-up truck. It went on and looked ok, but was a good 3" narrower at the rear. A buddy had an '84 K10 longbed that we mounted up a fiberglass topper from his '90 C1500 and it was the same thing, narrow at the rear. It did mount up, but it looked odd, more so than my low profile vinyl tonneau did. I believe the newer trucks are similarly narrow at the rear. If a friend and his '99 comes over this weekend, a test fit may be in order.

I would be interested to see if a newer generation kept the dimensions the same or where they went with it.

Usually in a listing for caps or toppers or campers or whatever the seller is calling them only the make of the truck it was on is given. Since the truck is long gone there is just a pic of a cap sitting in a yard. Sometimes the year and model of the truck or just random dimensions where you don't know if that's for overall or bed size.

Measurements say that an '88-'98 topper fits a '99-'06 truck too. My '90 measures 63 7/8" between the rails up front and 62" between the rails at the rear. My friend's '99 measured 63 5/8" between the rails up front and 62" at the rear. Both trucks have rails that are roughly 3 1/2" wide. I'm sure the inside rail measurements could vary by as much as 3/8" between trucks, due to production variances and/or replacement bedsides or other major previous bodywork.

I also quickly measured a square. It was something like 65 1/2" at the front and 65" at the rear.

Bump! I don't know where to store this thing where it won't get ruined. Also, a while back I repaired the piano hinge and the cover 100% works as it should.

But it's current resting place shows perfectly why it won't work on a squarebody.
