General concensus on fixing the windshield washer pump?

My windshield washer sprayer doesn't work. I assume it's probably the pump. I don't hear it trying to work, so it's not like the lines or the nozzles are plugged.

On a 67-72, the pump is behind the dash, and is a horrible design that'll just break again, so one mod you can do is to pick up a coolant bottle off an S10. They have the motor build right in to the tank, and it wires right in to the stock dash button and works like a charm.

I'm new to square bodies. What's the best way to fix this situation?

You can get a bottle with a built in washer off a later square body. I am not sure about the wiring and how to do it all up though. Your current set up incorporates the pump into the wiper motor assembly. You might want to troubleshoot it first. Make sure you have power going to the pump. Likely easier to replace your pump/motor assembly with a rebuilt.

There's two wires that run the built-in pump on the wiper motor, you just unplug that and those will be the wires that run your external pump. You can run a universal in-line pump or the later style that pops into the reservoir.

Interesting comment about 67-72 pumps. I have found them to be MUCH better than my 82 Rube Goldberg mechanical pump, which I replaced with a $15 electric pump. Not a trivial project however, if you want to totally disable the stock pump.

Yeah, I like how GM did many things, but I do not like the mechanical pumps used on these trucks. Not one bit.

Yeah, my 69 chevy C20 pump went out years ago, and it's behind the dash in a very awkward spot and if it leaks, it gets your interior all wet.

I heard about the S10 fix, so I did that, and it was super easy and has held up for like 7 years so far

S10's are just one source. Most any late 80's or 90's (and later too) GM product used the same setup, you just pick the reservoir shape that fits your needs.
