Gas gauge goes to full.

Replacing gauge panel. Several issues.

Turn on key - pointer goes to full.

I know there is half a tank, because I ......................





err, umm, ran out of gas, then put 10 gallons in.

It goes to full, or way past full? If it goes way past full, it's usually a bad connection in the sender wire circuit or a bad ground at the tank sender.

Exactly to full. Tried two gauges. both the same.

Ground the wire to the sender, if the gauge then reads empty you know it’s the sending unit.

The sending units often aren't accurate. I had one that always hovered around full until the tank level got down to around half, then the gauge would drop like a rock after that. Full was full and empty was empty, but anything in between was very inaccurate.

Exactly to full. Tried two gauges. both the same.

Add 6 more gallons and call it good.

Fooled around with contacts to gauge. Now it always reads empty.
