i had a clinking noise and a chirp in my front end from my truck. i found out it is a no no to use red grease in wheel bearing assemblies i pulled mine apart and the red grease had turned to silver grease from all the metal shavings every time i finally got smarter.

i bought new inner and outers along with timken bearings and used general purpose grease from wal mart and now im not changing wheel bearings every 2 months it has been almost 5 months sense i did mine and i just checked them and they are still fine and the grease looked clean.

all i do is repack put in a new seal along with torqing the castle nut to factory specs.
the old red grease i used was lucas red and tacky high temp extreme pressure.

Good Point. I am hoping with that much damage and that many shavings you also replaced the bearing races in your rotors. It's really not hard to do although some think you need to take the rotors to a machine shop and have them pressed in and out. But I'd imagine you'd probably chewed off some of the bearing race too which will make your new bearings ride to far inward on the race and also cause premature wear.

you moved my REPLY :Sumo: INFRACTION! :Moon:

i don't take my rotors to a machine shop to press out the races i just use a big socket and hammer. never had a problem doing it this way using a press is for sissy's :baby: .

other than that red grease is NOT worth the problems now all i have to do is change the moaning water pump :flipthebird:

I don't beleive I moved the reply, I copied it, leaving it in place, but started a new thread the copy since its was good info to be seperate from Imans under construction thread.

I"ve never had a machine shop press bearing races either. Its fairly easy to do by just finding something that closely fits the size of the race.
Even if its a stick of wood. It doesn't have to be round, although round like a socket is best if you have one big enough. I happen to have a cheap set of China made 3/4 drive sockets from like 7/8 in up to 2 1/2 inch I just those alot for pressing many things including bushings in auto transmissions.
