Hi Everyone,

I'm Joe, just joined the forum, and just purchased my first ever squarebody. It's a beautiful 1988 V2500 (R20?) 4x4 Suburban. It's got a 4 inch lift and is sitting on 35"s.The paint job is actually hand painted from the late owner who used it for his duck club truck. Runs perfectly, just replaced the power steering pump which had a small leak and now she's totally dry under the hood. Very small amount of rust on the front bumper and hood, interior in pretty decent shape.

Very excited about this truck. I am going to be hunting in it and using it for (shorter) road trips. Right now she has a three speed transmission in it with the 5.7l 350. Shifts very smooth and sounds perfect.

A couple of questions, If I am going to be doing mostly highway driving, with some offroading every now and then (85/15) would it be worth it to swap the transmission?

Is this a V2500 or R20 or V20? What's the difference between the them? I know its a 2500 with 4 wheel drive.

If anyone has a favorite spot for roof racks let me know, that is most likely the next thing I will be doing. I have a lot of baggage (lol)

Thanks for reading, and thanks in advance for any help! Happy to be here!

V2500 I believe is correct. They stopped using the C/K in '87?

Very nize lookin' truck. I wouldn't mess with it (the tranny), and my favorite place for a roof rack is on the roof.

I wouldn't dream of changing the transmission. I would support replacing a 4 speed with a 3 speed however, they last longer and are more predictable/dependable/stronger.
Cool lookin truck.:waytogo:
