Hey did the "Ram-Horn" style manifolds come stock on some trucks? If so was there any rhyme or reason to which trucks got them and what years?

They were gone from trucks by the '73 model year. Except the medium duty trucks, like C50, C60, etc.

Are they actually Rams horns or just the common log type manifolds? Rams horns are center dump and have pronounced arches. Log manifolds are more flat and dump towards the rear.

From what I remember when I was researching mine is that the corvette style ones are 2.5" and they dump straight down in the middle. There was a truck version and that was 2" and angled back slightly.

The Corvette style will interfere a bit with the driver side motor mount.

You can buy new aftermarket manifolds with the2.5 inch outlet. Iirc, you can get either side in straight or angled. The Chevy full size cars also used a driver side manifold with the angled outlet.

I know the 2" versions are seen as low performance, but I actually used the stock angled ones on a 383 engine in a 69 C10. A few months later I installed some Hedman Elite long tube headers with 1-5/8" primaries, and have to say there wasn't a seat-of-the-pants difference, even after I reinstalled the ram horns.

That's counter to everything we hear about headers, but then again, the engine was relatively mild (Dart 180 heads, 210/210 cam, 600 cfm carb, and 9.3: compression). And I rarely revved it above 4500 RPM. Exhaust system was 2-1/4" through Walker Dynomax super turbo mufflers.

I did clean up the inside of the dumps and probably hogged them out 1/16" or so. And I made sure the manifold port openings and gaskets didn't cover up any part of the cylinder head ports. That last step is something often overlooked, especially with the raised ports on GM Vortec heads.

Ok so apron further inspection i guess they are not "Ram Horn" just weird inverted manifolds. What are all the allen plugs for? old emissions?

Yep, average "log" style manifolds. The pipe plugs are where the AIR lines used to attach.

So will the ramhorns that dump straight down the center not work in our trucks? I found a guy that has a "brand new never installed" pair of the "corvette style" that dump down the center and he only wants $60. Don't wanna buy them if they won't work though.

Are they the 2.5" version or the 2" version? They might have some odd brackets on the front that you probably won't use. You can grind them off like I did.

I have the 2.5" on my truck and my dad has them on his '79 K15 also. Both of us had to notch out the driver side motor mount a bit to make sure there was clearance.

they are the 2" version and in the pictures he has posted of them they don't appear to have any kind of brackets on them.

The 2.5" rams horns are still available as a standard replacement part from several vendors (Speedway Motors, etc.) for about $60 each. Even places like Autozone can get the Dorman brand as special order.

The 2" version is nothing special. They are still very easy to find.
