Getting all the mechanical issues with my '87 R1500 addressed before the next step, which will be lowering and wheels. One major thing standing in the way: My truck is from the rust belt, and while the frame is decent, the engine crossmember is on borrowed time. I've got rust holes in the sides of the spring pockets, and the area under the oil pan where you would normally place a jack is really thin. Since I'm building this truck on a shoestring budget, I can't afford a new fabricated one (nor would I really need it considering I'm keeping the 4.3/3-speed column shift). I was wondering what might be a source for a solid one other than the local pick your part (which is probably also filled with rusty Michigan units). When I try to search it online I keep coming up with expensive aftermarket ones, or the search engine thinks I mean transmission crossmembers.
