diesel tach

i have a 87 square body instrument cluster, i want to add a factory tach. my problem is i have a 6.5 diesel and i need to know is the gas tach is the same as the diesel. i have located the gas tachs but no diesel.

You might be able to get a gas tach to work on a 6.5. If you put a HEI where the vacuum pump goes and run an ignition+ wire, then you'll have a tach signal to run to the gauge cluster. Of course you'll be missing a vac pump. I had an aftermarket diesel tach that had a pick up hose clamped to the alternator, might be an easier way to go.

Look at Chevy C60 and C70's. They have the 4k and 5K tachs. The upper is the diesel as it has the 150 LBS air pressure gauge.

I've got a (2actually) diesel tach with fuel gauge in it. Both are 4K RPMs. LMK
