Is the detent cable needed. I purchase my truck without the cable it was cut. So decided if I need to replace it or just add a plug.

Depends- TH350, or 700R4?

TH350- Not necessary.
700R4- Absolutely necessary.


Assume if your driving it, that its a th350. 700r4 wont live long wirhout the cable.

On th350 is useful, but can live without. Will not have kick down when pressing throttle.
As mentioned, 700r4 has to have the cable as it controls pressure

its a th350. would it benefit to have it back installed.

It has a good use when needing to accelerate or pass as it tells the trans to downshift
