Hello,

Has anyone swapped the front 7/16 wheel studs to 9/16 or 14mm?
The 14B SF rear axle I have for my k5 came with 14mm and would like them to match when I install.

Any part numbers for the studs?
Will I need to drill the rotors?

I was going to suggest the 3/4T upgrade hub/rotors/calipers then I remembered those will be 8 lug.

I wouldn't drill out the existing hub you have a drill press and can center each hole properly. One wrong placement and you have 1 or more studs not centered in the wheel.

So, you'll have to center each hole with the 7/16" bit, have the rotor secured in place then go to the larger bit. It'll be a PITA and repetitious.

Surely, you could go to a small stud on the rear I would think. 6 of 1, half-dozen of the other.

I bought ARP 1/2" studs for my 14SF. They are extended length, so you have to use open-ended lugnuts. The plan was to install 1/2" studs up front too, I had found a part # and everything, but it's been years and I've never done the swap yet.

14mm studs will take away some wheel choices if you ever want to run an older wheel that uses shank lugs.

I've been looking at 1/2-20 too as it seems to have the most options. For the rear I found 610-569 and 610-379 both just under 2" with slightly different knurls.
Stock 14SF 14mm are 1.5" long but I can use deeper lugs or I may just convert to disk and need longer anyway.
I'll check the ARP ones too.

Now looking for the front studs.
If you run across the part number that would be great.

Going purely off memory here (10 years ago), the stock wheel studs were .621 knurle and the ARP were .625 and I pressed them into the axles just fine with a ball joint press.

Going purely off memory here (10 years ago), the stock wheel studs were .621 knurle and the ARP were .625 and I pressed them into the axles just fine with a ball joint press.
Sounds good. I've found several with that size.
Now looking for the front. These are harder since the knurl is further away from the head.

@bucket when you installed the 14B SF I assume you had to weld on your spring perches and shock tabs.
Did you keep the stock pinion angle or rotate a few degrees?
Also if you can find the part number for the front studs that would be great.

Lol, I have never installed it yet. That poor K5 has been sitting in the barn for 8-9 years now. But yes, I removed the spring perches and relocated them to the correct spacing. I welded them on to match the pinion angle of an original 10 bolt axle that I had handy. I left the shock mounts alone. If my measurements are correct, I can just use a long bolt with a spacer between the shock tabs and then mount the shocks to the side of the gmt400 location. But like I said, I never got the chance to test that method.

I've been looking for the part number, but no luck yet.

My kit came with new perches and shock tabs so I'll install both.
Good to know the tabs are that close I can use as a reference.

I may put a little angle since I have a 3" lift.

Yes, stock height. I have a basic 2.5" lift for it too, the rear lift blocks have a bit of angle made into them. I figured worst case, I'd have to install degree shims, but I'm ok with that.
