Curious to see if anyone here has installed a high amp CS144 alternator on their big block and how you wired it.

I've installed a few on small blocks. It was as simple as wiring in the new plug. The first one I used an adapter harness, but the connector was cheap and didn't work well (even came from Powermaster) so I wired in a factory pigtail.

And the "needs resistor" thing is a myth. Many GM applications had a gauge and no idiot light to act as a resistor, nor a resistor wired inline anywhere. It works fine without a resistor.

If you want to upgrade to a 140A alternator as a drop-in upgrade on that GM serpentine bracket, I have adapter kits for that if you’re interested. For example, a 140A 1994-97 Impala SS alternator is what I like running with them.

Can you get any of these with a v-belt pulley? No idea how these come (with or without the pulley that is).

Im planning on getting the 90s tbi serpentine setup so I will end up getting a vortec style alternator.

The vortec style alternator doesn't fit the pre-vortec style serpentine brackets.

Can you get any of these with a v-belt pulley? No idea how these come (with or without the pulley that is).

The CS130 and CS144 will both take a regular v-belt pulley, but belt slippage can be a problem. This is where the mid-80's pulley setup comes in handy, as the alternator belt is a 5-rib belt. I think the vortec style alternator (the model number escapes me right now) will take the usual v-belt pulley too, but that case has different mounting lugs.

The 87's still had v-belts...yes? Eventually this truck will go TBI or the like - just thinking ahead.

Little tip, go to your parts store and grab an alternator for a 91 Chevy r2500 with a 6l diesel iirc, I run these on everything. It’s got the standard 70s sbc mounting confuguration, and a V belt pulley, but a 105 amp output. The only mod needed is a little adapter harness but that’s just 12 bucks or so online

Squarebody trucks with a small block kept the v-belt style pulleys and brackets through '88 and they even had the 5-rib alternator belt too.

That would be the CS130. They basically came in two variations, offset lugs and straight across lugs. '87 Camaro with V8 will be the same 105 amp alternator, but with the 5-rib pulley if that's what you need. Well, it "should" be. Many rebuilders give you one with a regular v-belt pulley. And on that subject, there was a time when all the parts stores sold the wrong alt for an '88 squarebody with a small block. In that case, you have to tell them it's an '87.
