OK fellow squares....my new project is already throwing curves... option sheet shows both 66W And 68L options 66w is a mandarin orange color usually applied at dealer from my research but the truck is obviously the 68l russet metallic I have no paint code for the inset off white has this been done after the fact ...thanks for any and all input. I'm a bit away from this stage but I like to head off slowdowns before they occur.

66w Mandarin Orange is the interior color. Neat! Those are hard to find! Have any interior pictures?

Also, your spid shows deluxe two-tone, so the secondary color is original. Or at least it had a secondary color of some sort originally. It could have been repainted a different shade.

Well shoot. If those are still the original interior panels, they are baked and faded.

I suppose it's possible that someone swapped in a tan/camel/whatever interior because they liked it better. If you pull a seatbelt all the way out of the retractor, is it noticeably more orange colored? The backside of a door panel may tell a tale as well, with color and date code both.

I'll get back to you on that and I'll get better picks also I'm pretty set on a restoration with a few minor tweaks....I think some 17 inch gm style ralleys for better tire selection ect... so I'm trying to get the info I need to figure it all out for example which grille is correct ect... I've done multiple trucks but have never concerned myself with any of those things I've just done what I liked. I'm a diesel technician by trade and I've done multiple mechanical Cummins swaps for myself and others in these squares the make an insane truck. This truck was slated for a 1250 hp p-pump 6BT Cummins till I realized it was a factory 400 truck.

Very cool truck! Lots of awesome options. Here's what the mandarin interior originally would've looked like, super rare

@Keith Seymore might be able to shed some light about the exterior color. Usually on the SPID, the two tone trucks read "##, main color, ##" and the 2 numbers are the color codes. So yours says "68 RUSSET METALLIC 6", that last 6 may be the secondary color. Maybe. Or there may be more to that digit that didn't have room to print.

Here's my SPID, my truck is 2-tone dark and light blue. So mine is "21 LIGHT BLUE METALLIC 29", but there wasn't enough room to print all of that. I have seen trucks with shorter color names that had both color codes showing.

Doing a quick bit of research, it looks like your secondary color is either code #60 Santa Fe Tan or #65 Buckskin. Here's a link to the GM Heritage site with the whole GM Truck factory info that was available for 1978:

**edit** Idk why it says "site maintenance" but it is the right link, I clicked it in 3 different browsers to make sure

Mine was buckskin with Santa Fe roof and mandarin interior that was also trashed. Some parts were the correct color in spots hidden from direct sun and bleached tan at tops of the door panels and top of the dash and the seat was flaking off and turning black I think some of it was dyed.

Don't have a full shot of the interior when it was still all stock, but you can see the belts and kick panels when they were still in it and the Buckskin on the bottom and the Sante Fe on top of the cab. I'm saying probably Russet and Santa Fe by the way the roof looks and the lower section on the body is darkened by the Russet washing down from weathering and the dirt in general.
