CNC machined emblems

Hi everyone, I am posting this looking for feedback. I’m a high school auto shop teacher and I have a V2500. My High Sierra fender emblems are shot, and I can’t find replacements. I had my 17 year old son draw them up in CAD, and I had one of my students who is a talented machinist carve some out on a CNC machine. They’re not perfect, but getting close.

The hardest part of making these is almost done. Once we have them perfected, it would be pretty simple to make several sets.

My question for you all- how can I gauge interest to see if anyone might want to buy a set? I tried posting on a couple Facebook groups and got in trouble. Not looking to ruffle any feathers, just thought I could help some guys out and maybe get some parts $$$ out of the deal.

Hi Rattletrap , very nice repops of an emblem that isn't being offered from any of the aftermarket suppliers . I would take a pair of the HIGH SIERRA 2500 emblems .

With CAD & CNC the possibilities are endless to what can be produced.
If it can be profitable in the long run is always the big question in any type of manufacturing scenario.
I hope it works out.

Great looking emblems! What CAD program did your student use?

If you use something like SolidWorks, the initial file created is usually a common file type that many different machines can use. It’s translated by the machine software to a set of commands for the specific machine.

With a common CAD file type you can drive either a CNC machine or a 3D printer. In other words, you could also 3D print the emblems. And there are now 3D printers that use Kevlar and other materials that are much more durable than simple plastic.

He used Inventor for the design. I’ll have to look into whether it plays nice with 3D printers as well.

Well I agree they look nice and I’m really glad to see young people doing any kind of work like this. I just happened to be on the Classic Parts website this morning and they have all such trims. I would think LMC has them also.
I think between CNC and 3D printing so long as there’s the interest and need anything could be reproduced. Except maybe the correct gas filler hose for my flatbed.

They look very nice. I see a lot of billet emblems at the shows here in Phoenix. I believe most are made by billet badges.
