In Process of building a half ton c10. Had an old 496 laying around wondering how will the front leafs hold up. Thoughts?

What year truck? My ‘79 C10 didn’t seem to mind swapping to a 454.

Does your truck have an inline six or sbc in it now? Just have a friend or family member sit on the hood or stand on the front bumper to approximate the extra weight of the big block. Much easier than test fitting the block in there! ;)

Might be a little nose heavy. Try it, worst case is stiffer springs. You will love the 496.

I was thinking of changing the leaf springs to 3/4 or 1 ton in front

My K30 has a 454 from the factory. OEM front springs are 3 leaf with a negative arch. They road like crap. I switched them out for a 3" Tuff Country HD springs and ORD sway bar disconnects. Rides way better.

I see where your head is at but I’m not sure it’d be worth the trouble. Even if the bbc weighs 150 lbs more, that’s only 75 lbs per spring per side. Might throw the stance off by an inch? I wouldn’t worry about it unless you’re going to be doing some hardcore off roading.

honestly no intention on the offroading except to get through my pastures and they are pretty clean. sometime slick but wouldn't call it mudding.
