blower issues! help

ok so when i bought the truck the guy said if i want heat i would need to plug in the motor because it always runs, well i dont want to have to pop my hood before and after a drive, and ill need the defroster in winter, anyway on how to fix this?


other info, when the switch is of it blows when its on high it blows high and when its on low it blows the same as off. idk whats going on but i need it to work.

Sounds like either the blower switch in the HVAC control is bad or the blower resistor is bad.

Sounds like the blower resistor to me

You might have to pick up a used one. I am only seeing "with A/C" for new.

thats what the area looks like. what part is the blower resistor? and how would i test the switch in the HVAC panel?

your blower resistor is the one that is not plugged in

I've heard of people fixing their old one by soldering in a resister instead of the resister coils that came from the factory that always seem to blow like a fuse after so many years, but I don't have any info on what resistors were used. You could use a multimeter on the resistor coil and get an ohm reading and then go to radio shack and buy one to match.

update i got it cleaned up and its working better, not blowning constantly but the motor still ticks i think if i clean it more it will be fine, on LO it blows like not at all on OFF it blows like it should on low and on high it blows high any input?

lol it was me about three weeks ago but i got it tested and its better but not perfect i was just curious about my HVAC switch bc of how its blowing on each setting, RETRO I NEED HELPS haha

if i remember correctly the trucks from the 70's the blower motor did run all the time at a real slow speed, never did understand why they did that

They did in non-A/C truck for circulation.

I thought it was just the A/C trucks in the 70's. I know my '77 runs at a low speed all the time, but I don't think the '79 does. I've never noticed.

My 78 doesn't have "off" only low medium and high.
