1989 GMC Jimmy 15"x8" with 3.75" backspace and 1/4-3/8 space between rim and Tie rods
If I move up to a 17" rim will a 4.5" back space work?
Not too many options for 17" or 18" (simple style) rims with less than 4" back space
If this has been answered already sorry I haven't found yet
Thanks

i'm hoping to reduce some steering play/slop. With the push pull steering it will never feel super tight but it will feel a litter tighter
i wanna reduce sidewall height keep 33" over all

I'm going with 17s with 33s as well.
Same reason as you and would like to put a newer rear axle with disk brakes.

Ebay has several options that are supposed to fit our 6 lugs.
There are American Racing 17x9 that are very close to the ones you have.

Do you know what is the MAXIMUM backspacing that will fit?
My 15" with BS 3.75" is pretty much it, I think slightly more with a 17" rim but not sure how much
If a 17" with 4.5" backspace works that would open up many options

I had a 15x10 with a 3.5" backspacing. I just moved to a 17"x9 with a 4.5" bs. it clear everything with room left over.

What size tire are you running? How flush is it to the outside of the fenders?

The rear is mostly flush. The front sticks out about 1/2” maybe a little more. It looks great. I just prefer thee wider stance.
I’ll take some pictures today
