I’ve used Krylon 1403 on plastics, and I know Eastwood makes an argent silver. Otherwise, Walmart should have that VHT paint.

It's hard to find in stores now, but most spray can companies offer a Rally Wheel paint that is the correct argent silver that GM used. Probably have to order it through the resto parts suppliers now.

I've used the duplicolor brand wheel paint in a silver that looks pretty close.

Wheels were typically black on the back side (unless there was some plant to plant/model year variation that I am not aware of).

Flint assembly (circa 1979) shown here.

I always used the Duplicolor Ford Argent until they changed the formula. I've been using their Truck rally wheel paint but I think it has a little too much metalflake in it.

I have a set of 16" 8 lug wheels that have been off the road for years. They are black on the back side and white on the front. You can see the white over spray on the wheel backs.

Is your truck from Janesville?

They did some weird stuff when it came to primer and ecoat; for example, for some years their radiator support and front wheel housings were a grey-ish color.

I'm wondering if they did the same thing with their wheels....

...but definitely the exception rather than the norm.

Also - how do you know the wheels have not been redone? (ie, are "as delivered" from the factory).

Not sure where it came from... and it was mounted standing up in the bed behind the cab. I do think theyre original though.

I bought some Rustoleum metallic finish aluminum colored paint for my 79's grill. the area above my hand hit with a quick coat to see how close the match was. The areas left and right are the OG finish. It seems to be pretty darn close (the flash made it look brighter than what it really is)
