I don't think LMC sells this one, I got mine from a local junkyard a few years ago and it had evidently been on the donor truck for many many years. The one LMC sells is probably made with thinner steel.

Just to get the terminology straight, I've always thought of those as push bars, not grill guards. A grill guard has smaller diameter tubing that extends out to cover the headlights as well.

I like the looks of those bars, but have to wonder if they actually work in the real world? It seems like if you really bumped into anything with any force the bar would just cave into the grill, causing more damage than if you didn't have one. Any of you guys actually put one to the test?

They make a good place to mount offroad lights, might protect your radiator if you had to push down a small tree, and would more than likely save your radiator if you hit a deer at highway speeds.

Yeah, I can see them being useful in those situations. I was wondering how they would hold up in a collision with another vehicle. If you hit a typical passenger car the damage would be down low, almost under the bumper, but the push bar might transmit the impact energy up into the grill.

I read somewhere that a guy with one of these hit a samurai goin about 30 and it held strong. I'm no expert of course but I would think that the mounting tabs would be the weak point...

they are push bars or grille gaurds, the ones with the headlight cover pieces are called brush gaurds, or some call them grille gaurds. They used to sell them at jcwhitney and still do but not sure if they still have chrome or only black. I looked one up recently I think for 88-98 style and they only had black.

ebay used to have them and lmc at one point.

Mine feels plenty strong and it bolts right to the frame. It's on the truck for two reasons, pushing bushes and small tree branches away from the grille, and it also makes a great step stool for getting under the hood.

A b ody of mine had the full width deal on his GMT400 and hit a newer suv who had ran a red light. He was doing about 50 and totalled the suv but was able to limp his home with no frame damage only some front sheetmetal and headlights needing to be replaced.
