While trying to get to my oil pressure sender, it was so buried I decided to take cap and rotor off to make room and noticed this rusty looking dust under distributor Cap. Should I clean it up with electrical cleaner? K5 is running smooth but I'd rather not get stuck in some remote location. If suggestion is new distributor, OEM Rebuilt or Davis Unified Ignition distributor?

OEM GM rebuilt $338 on Amazon Mexico

Davis Unified Ignition $209 Rebuilt USA

I don't think that surface rust matters much. you may clean up and add some protectant to the stem that the rotor slides on just to make it easier to remove next time. others that are more knowledgeable may have better advice.

Just use some light sanding material on the shaft. Sometimes will add a film of sil glide so the rotor doesn't stick. Can lightly blow if off with air but otherwise leave it alone.
