I am reassembling a 4-bolt main 350 (3970010) from a 76 C15 p/u. Last rebuild was in 94 (data plate on engine). Noticed a coolant in 2 & 4 cylinder. Head gasket looked good so I had the 882 head checked. It was cracked internally. I have a new set of aftermarket heads on the way so I decided to look at the rod/crank bearings as well. Bearings look ok but I want new. The steel ones currently in are FM brand.
Can these old engines use the modern aluminum bearings or should I stick with the trimetal? I am looking at MAHLE/CLEVITE makers. Thanks! GW

I would also like to know the answer to this as I have a rebuild coming in the near future also.
