I was thinking of swapping my 2000 cluster in, looks like alot of hacking and slashing to complete, and probably wouldnt look right when done either, just wanted to see if anyone on here had tried, or done it. searched it, didnt come up with anything. thanks, Paul

I can't say I have ever seen a newer cluster in the original dash. I have seen both complete GMT400 and GMT900 dash swaps, which obviously included the clusters. Personally I didn't care for the swaps, but they were nicely done. I would be looking into trying to make the original gauges compatible with your new sensors, or installing aftermarket gauges. Aftermarket gauges would probably be the "easier" route.

I don't remember where I saw the pictures of the dash swaps, sorry. If you do decide to go ahead with the cluster swap, please post the adventure here.

I don't know the year, but the later square bodies used electric speedos. Your 87 may be that way. PM Retro, he could probably tell you.

Thanks for starting this 87. I just bought an 86 K10. I was thinking about doing the same thing. Of course it has to look right. I like how the newer vehicles have speedo and tach with all others built below them but in the same vicinity.

My gas gauge doesn't work and it appears I will be in the dash after troubleshooting. If any money is spent in the dash, mine will be improved one way or the other. I can't stand not having a tach or trip meter and I'm not going to spend a fortune on a kit to get it LOL.

please keep your ideas coming. I've got a post to put up about my radio mod once I finish it.

man I'm getting old....didn't realize I'd been a part of GMSB this long lol.

Anyway, I got on the gauge hunt again and came across this semi truck dash. I really like the bit just in front of the wheel. By the pic, can anyone tell what the make/model truck it is?

lol....look at all them gauges :)

the thought still in the back of my mind. I came up with this today. What about using 70's 240Z gauges?

-oil pressure/temp could be used as oil pressure/oil temp
-another oil pressure/temp could be used for fuel pressure/trans temp
-fuel gauge/Volt could be used for what they are

Change the faces to match whatever speedometer and tach are used. Do some finessing on the labeling of the gauges. The fuel gauge is a concern. Would have to find out what resistance range they have compared to ours and go from there.

IF ANYONE CAN THINK OF OTHER GAUGES THAT ARE 2" OR LESS AND ARE DUAL, PLEASE POST. ELECTRIC ONLY....DON'T WANT TO RUN ANY PRESSURE LINES TO THE DASH....JUST ANOTHER PLACE FOR A LEAK.

Thanks Guys

it would be nice to know how fast I'm going when I'm over 90 mph lol. When I'm in OD, the power doesnt really come back until your over ~2500 rpms (3.08 gears).
