I wouldn't be looking at a new motor until you get all that smog shit off and put that intake and carb on there. Any problems with the current motor?

And a stand to work on:

The friend I bought it from said it had a bad power valve so I decided to just try and find a rebuild kit. After I get it redone it'll be time to do some :superhack: and:weld: on some "pumps":secret:.

Yeah, most Holley's do have a bad power valve in them. 1 backfire thru the intake is all it takes many times.

Did you get an Ethanol compatible kit? I'm seeing that is the thing to do these days. When you buy your carb kits, make sure you're getting one that says it's ethanal safe or compatible.

As far as I know its compatible:waytogo:.

Well I finally started to take apart the carb. Replaced the bad power valve and we stopped to get a can of Carb cleaner. seems straight forward but the gaskets were tight as hell to take off. heres the progress:superhack::

Well just letting people know I'm still around and kicking:buttkick:. Not much has changed on Blue. The carb is sitting in my room and so is the intake:rolleyes:. Between schooling and helping my dad I hadn't had much time to tinker with 'er. Hopefully before winter me and my dad will get my rear brakes fixed to I can drive 'er for a little while before winter:driver:.

Thanks for the update. Sure is a nice truck to have sit during the Summer and Fall. Back brakes isn't but a 20 minute job per side once you got the parts. They're cheap enough, plan on putting in new wheel cylinders too if it's not been done in many years. Just do it while you're there. About $9 each side. Should be able to get all you need and the drums turned for well under $60 doing it yourself.

That was fast:headbang:. Thanks for the info. I know it's the wheel cylinders that are leaking fluid. The hard part I'm having is there are 2 diffrent sizes for the back brakes and I don't know which I have:think:. I have been driving 'er at least twice a week with a mushy brake pedal but she's still safe:burnout:. I can't get over the heads I turn when she's going down the road:boti:. I also decided if and when I'm gonna paint 'er she's getting just a white top:favorites37:.

Look at your RPO list for the brake package you have. Not sure about your later trucks, but my '79 was only available with two different rear brake set-ups. Shouldn't be that hard at all to get the correct cylinders.

Prolly 3 in the 85 model. You could get the 14 bolt semi float, or 14b Full Float rear axle, and there are 2 different sizes for the 14b and I think one for the 14b or maybe 2 but 1 of those will interchange with the 14b FF.

I just got done with a Holly 650, them gaskets have a finish that reacts to gasoline and makes them gaskets stick tighter~N~crap, I had a heck of a time prying them things apart.
I thinking they did this in case screws loosened up and they still will not leak.
