Picking up a donor cab tonight
Cab turned out to be in a worse shape than hoped, but might still use it. Got front diff and transfer case serviced. Also started a bit of a wash.
If you change the body panels, you will lose the dated, yet very cool striping.
Graphics will stay. Not hard to reprint a new set. Or can leave it alone, but cab is rusted out just about everywhere. Firewall/cowl is rusted, inner rockers are gone, floors, door frame, partially windshield frame and cab corners. Fenders are also hacked
Wondering if worth rebuilding rear diff with new gears and cheap locker. Pinion has play in all directions, plenty of gear slack as well.
It has to get worse to get better. Right?
I might have to worry for my life. A friend of mine did the carb swap on the stepside and offered it for me to drive to work so we can swap wheels, while he is going to drive the 79 wideside. Now that it is at work, it is not going anywhere until he replaces the fuel filter and hose. And secure them as well. And I might even force him to walk home...
(We just going to carpool in the 79)
And yes, It has already started leaking fuel.
And one more shot of the sad truck stance.
All is normal again with wheels/tires now. 16.5 wheels with military take offs. Supposed to be easy to loose the bead on heavy off-road but should be ok for now. Just got to fix the fuel line before it goes anywhere else.
I like the tires they look good! You buy locally or online? I was shopping ebay for some tall skinnys for my dually some day not cheap and shipping didnt help.
It was semilocal. 200mile round trip. Found someone who wanted to change to bigger size. Saved about $100 on shipping after accounting for the trip cost.
Thats not to bad at least you could check them out first before you bought them and saved some money on shipping!
It is legal and I got the windshield replaced. Just have to change the sticker.
The crank snout is tore up. Only thing I can think of is previous owner installing new balancer in the mud. Still seats balancer ok
We put a condenser back in it and just about done with serpantine belt swap over. Also added a missing shroud. All parts came from a last suburban partout. Might be back on the road next week.
That pic of the crank snout looks like someone used a pair of channel locks or some kind of pliers to turn the engine over at some point in time. ask me how I know this!
