Finally got my dream truck, (or close enough anyway, a 72 was the goal) 1976 K10 stepside with my favorite motor, the 400 small block.

The good - the frame is solid and the body is good except for the rockers, hood, and radiator support. Heavy half. Lots of stainless steel hardware used. Getting an extra transfer case with it.

The bad - it has been sitting since 1999.

Definitely going to change it over to part time. The guy i bought it from says he is giving me another transfer case that he thinks is part time, crossing my fingers and hoping for a NP205.

Wheel repaint is happening the second the carb is straightened out lol. Thats a lot of yellow.

It has a QuadraJet on it that I know is chock full of varnish from sitting for so long. Sending the whole truck off to a local graybeard who is supposed to be the Tom Brady of carb rebuilders. I would give it a spin myself but I dont have a garage built yet, and need a truck to build the garage!

The plan for after it runs:

1. New fuel tank
2. Rocker panels
3. Undercoating
3. Paint job
4. Edelbrock Pro Flo 4 multi port fuel injection
5. 6L90E (if it will fit)

Switch to part time 4wd at some point.
Would like dual tank setup as well.

I know advance adapters has an adapter for a 6l80 to NP205 (newer type) for around $120. Not sure if the 80 & 90 have the same bolt pattern though.

Howdy!

Looks like an awesome truck, even with the yellow wheels.

I was really looking for a step side when I was on the hunt. I love the way they look. I guess that just gives me an excuse to start looking for another one!

I'm curious about the eagerness to change it over to part time. Is it a fuel mileage decision, or concern for the reliability?

Little bit lower mpg, little bit more wear and tear on the front axle parts.

Personally, it wouldn't be very high on my list of things to do.
